Hello! Hi! I'm really excited for [livejournal.com profile] space_swap, and I hope that my request(s) and the details below the cut make you excited too! :DDD

In general, there are a few things I'm always interested in:

  • LADIES. Female characters hanging out, having adventures, being friends enemies and everything in-between. (I'm not always good at writing it, which may be part of why I look for it so much in requests.)

  • ~*~Crossovers~*~ If you can find a way to make two of my requested fandoms meet (which, considering three are canonically related, probably wouldn't be too hard), that would make my day. Fusions, where characters from Canon A coexist with characters from Canon B in Canon B, are also some of my favorite things.

  • Genfic. I'm not at all interested in sexual content in my fic, and my interest in romance is mostly relegated to the oblivious/pining trope and related pre-relationship UST and misunderstandings. Canon pairings existing in the background is fine, but I'm not interested in an A-plot romance unless otherwise stated.

As for specific fandoms... )

Title: The Concatenation
Author: [livejournal.com profile] gladdecease
Beta Reader: [livejournal.com profile] creepylicious
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] ghostbones
Fandom: Star Trek: Alternate Original Series/Star Trek: Generations
Characters/Pairings: James Kirk, Spock Prime, some OCs, with appearances by most major (and many minor) Enterprise officers as of STID; background Spock/Uhura and Kirk Prime/Spock Prime
Rating: T
Warnings: (skip) Canon-level (well, TOS-level) non-consensual use of telepathic/memory manipulating powers.
Word Count: ~17,000
Summary: concatenation /kɑn.ˌkæt.ɪ.ˈneɪ.ʃən/
— n
1. A series of links united; a series or order of things depending on each other, as if linked together; a chain, a succession.
2. The application of these series of links.

Synonyms: chain, connecting, continuity, integration, interlocking, link, linking, nexus, series, succession, uniting

An easy mission gets complicated for the crew of the Enterprise, and a whole mess of concatenations start popping up: to the future, to each other, and to that other universe, the one that started everything, too close and not near enough simultaneously.

Story on AO3 | Mix on AO3

Well, here's what I've been working on all summer - an expansion of an idea I first tinkered with four years ago! The end product is in a lot of ways not even remotely what I expected when I started - it was supposed to be 3rd Person Limited, but Kirk just refused to let anyone else take over the narration, so I gave in and let him have 1st Person. It was supposed to be much more about K/S versus prime!K/S, where they are and how they deal with each other, how they feel about seeing this future that didn't, can't happen, but, and I don't even know how this happened, that got sidelined for OCs angsting about their lost lives. (My mental image of Carvalho is essentially Gina Torres, btb. Orlan I had no particular inspiration for, but she's got a skin tone falling in the Middle East~South Asian range. Because I can, dammit!)

It was also supposed to end happy, but midway through outlining I realized that my attempt at technobabble required that Kirk go back not remembering anything. That made me feel a little terrible and a little cruel, but I couldn't deny the necessity once I realized it, not for the sappy ending I'd had in mind initially.

If I could go back and change some things, I don't think I'd change anything plot-wise? I might have forced Kirk to shut up, so I could actually get into other characters' heads, make things explicit that I'd tried my hardest to imply. (Like, Spock isn't insulted by the idea of Kirk as t'hy'la, he's baffled by the idea of having t'hy'la at all. It's an archaic concept, very romantic for Vulcans, and not something he'd ever considered a possibility for himself.) (Also: Spock Prime's flicker of emotion? Hope, followed by horrified despair.) I'd've gotten that conversation between Guinan and Chekov on screen, rather than tossing it in as an anecdote from McCoy. Probably the same for Soran's family.

I wouldn't have tried as hard to conceal the identities of the El-Aurians the readers should know stay in the Prime universe. It would've been more suspenseful to make it clear to the reader who they are and what must happen, and allow the suspense to develop from waiting for the characters to learn that themselves.

But what's done is done! Unless I get an idea that blows the redo up to ten times the original's length (again), I won't be changing things up anymore. It may not be the best possible telling of this story, but it's the one I was capable of writing.

  • I think there's been six or seven short fics added to the DS9/SPN universe masterpost? Highlights include two snippets of "The Wire" adaptation, "Profit and Lace" going slightly different (and not in Quark's favor), and Kira-as-Jimmy Novak!

  • Also I wrote Welcome to Night Vale fic? Which is also a crossover with Magic School Bus because once the idea that Carlos might be Carlos got in my head it found it liked it there and decided to never leave.

  • Also there was a queer_fest fic involving NCIS? Stressful to write, a little clunky (imo) to read, but it does exactly what I wanted to do with the prompt, so I'm satisfied.

  • Also way back when STID came out I wrote a character study comparing TOS Carol to AOS Carol. I still really like it.

I think that's about everything that people have responded to positively of late. (Though of course there have been other things. Including one that technically shouldn't be on AO3 yet, but I clicked "post" instead of "preview" and was so tired of editing I just went SCREW IT. But shh, you won't officially know about that until Friday.)

What's this about? Ben Sisko: husband, father, Marine. When the first is no longer true he quickly realizes the last can't be either, and convinces his superiors he can best serve his country by retiring. Moving with his son Jake to a tiny landlocked town far from any military base, he vows to make their lives from now on as normal as possible.

But between the angels that save their lives before they've even moved into their new house, the cryptic destinies they keep insisting Ben and Jake have, and the bizarre assortment of non-human beings showing up in this little town, it's quickly becoming clear that "normal" isn't exactly on the menu anymore...

No, seriously, what? Think DS9 characters in a Supernatural setting, with certain alien species becoming certain non-human species, certain DS9 characters taking on roles familiar to long-time Supernatural viewers, and some DS9 plotlines getting brought in too. And who knows, maybe some Supernatural characters will show up along the way.

And you've got this post on livejournal because...? Because AO3's series pages are really frustrating to use if you're not writing everything in the order you intend it to be read - and almost everything I've written so far is out of chronological order. Once I get most of the early stuff written, I might start an AO3 series, but for now you're stuck with this.

So what order are we supposed to read this in?Well... )

I, uh. Huh. Haven't had any original fic in awhile. There's probably a reason for that: I couldn't tell you half of what's going on under the surface here.

It's for [livejournal.com profile] prompt_in_a_box, round 43, for the prompt "rain". I was walking to my car earlier and found myself reflecting on what I think smells clean, and it somehow turned into this.

He opened the door of his apartment for me, turning on a light. )

I'm participating in Wishlist 2011 this December - details are here - and the first step to the process is to invite prompts.

I'll be taking twelve in total, and thought I'd be more likely to get enough prompts if I spread the offer around. So the first twelve prompts I receive, between my livejournal, fic community, dreamwidth, and tumblr, will be the ones I write for.

Any prompt format will be accepted, provided I'm familiar with the fandom (for those not in the know, I've previously written these fandoms, and am a big fan of crossovers), but it might be easier for me to write you something if you provide characters and a situation or phrase for me to build on.

Thanks for the prompts!

All of them for the "6 Words" theme, and I'm still deciding if I am so meticulous in my archiving that I want to post those to AO3. On one hand, six words. On the other, I have lost some fondly remembered fic to "the host of the day has since deleted their account, and with it went their commentfic post". So, we'll see.

In the meantime, link round-up!

Glee, Mike/Kurt, dancing (mild 3.02 spoilers)
Glee, Kurt, legend
NCIS, DiNozzo/McGee, prank war
